The single most important factor that will determine whether you love wearing a wig is FIT.

Have you ever fallen love with a pair of shoes that didn't fit right?  Been there done that, right? Three city blocks later and your wishing that you had your slippers on. Well, every much like wearing a bad bra or shoes, a wig that is too small or too big will shake your confidence in many, many ways.  After all, where your attention goes is where your energy flows, right?  Maybe you will be walking and a big gust of wind blows and you feel your wig slip back & freak. Maybe your in a meeting and the lace front isn't sitting flat so you keep worrying about that instead of focusing on your meeting.

Having Alopecia Universalis myself, I wear wigs all day, everyday and sometimes well into the evening. When I meet with new wig wearers or women new to hair loss, the first thing that they obsess over is the color and length of the wig.  Don't get me wrong, the color and length of the wig is extremely important but if your wig doesn't fit you well you are going to be spending a lot more time, energy & money trying to make it work, which I believe is completely unfair.  I believe women with hair loss deserve better, exactly we should be demanding better from manufactures.

I promise, the single most important factor that will determine whether you love wearing wigs is the fit. Why? For three reasons:

    1. Comfort - it's critical that you are comfortable when you are wearing your wig. If your wig is too big or too small, I promise, you won't enjoy wearing it.
      • Trust me, I know. My 1st wig was way too big for me & I live in San Francisco where it is windy 90% of the time. I can vividly recall feeling the wind blow the top around, the ear tabs were too low so my ears hurt after a couple of hours and as a result, I wore a hat all of the time and hated wearing a wig.
    2. Confidence - the essence of what we are trying to do. When your wearing your wig, I don't want you thinking about the wig.  I want you to have enough confidence and faith in your wig that you can focus on living your life and do what you do.
    3. Appearance - I am not talking about vanity ladies. Just like the perfectly tailored blazer, the right sized wig will dramatically impact how natural your wig looks. The shape in the back will cup against your head which gives you the natural dome shape.  The ear tabs will function properly and not give you headaches. The your lace front will sit flat without the use of tape, glue or anything else.

The main challenge is most wig manufactures believe that 80% of the population "can fit" into an average cap size. However, I have selling wigs for more than three years and I have found the average cap size to rarely work well.  Like shoes, the wig cap size needs to fit well, not somewhat!  The easiest way to determine the right size wig for you is to take your head measurements.

You will need a soft tape measure, like this along something to record the measurements (phone, pen/paper). Here is a detailed video showing you how to properly take your measurements.
