How To: Choose The Right Type Of Hair Fiber

If your trying to decide what hair fiber is the best for your wig or topper then this blog post is for you. Often women will buy a synthetic fiber because it's so much more affordable.  But are synthetic fiber less expensive?

Before buying a synthetic fiber, I think you should ask yourself these questions?

  1. How often have you change your hair style in the last month?

    • None - consider synthetic
    • Somewhat - ask yourself the next question
    • Often - seriously consider human hair
  2. Maintenance

    • Normal ready-to wear synthetic fiber likes to bind and twine so they do requires daily effort to keep them looking good.   You must regularly use a wide tooth comb to remove any tangles that occur because if you don't the fiber will bind so much that it will be impossible to comb through it, which will cause the wig to become matted and look puffy. This is the main reason why synthetic wigs only last 3-6 months.  I often find myself combing the synthetic hair 5-7 times a day so the maintenancy gets old real fast.

    • Higher-quality, remy human hair with the cuticle partially intact requires little weekly maintenance. A weekly wash along some oil on the ends during the week combined with a morning and evening brush is all it really needs.

  3. Cost

    • Normal synthetic fibers typically only last about 3-6 months because the fibers breakdown overtime with friction/movement & heat so on average you will need 2-3 synthetic wigs or toppers per year.

    • Human hair will cost more up front but a high-quality human hair wig or topper on average will last you 1-2 years.

Here is quick snapshot of the pros/cons to consider when trying to decide what fiber is right for you, I hope it helps a little.
